Kara K. was a 25-year-old woman in her late twenties who committed suicide. She killed herself by jumping from a tall building. She had been involved with an ex-boyfriend, and he had recently broken her heart by cheating on her. She went on a drinking binge, went up to a truck stopped next to a bridge, and jumped. She did not report to the police until three days later. The police officer reported that she tried to commit suicide four more times.

This is a tragedy, a horrendous event. It should have been a wake-up call, but no one seems to want to speak about it, to take responsibility, to take ownership for her death. Her family and friends feel her death is due to a woman not being able to handle the stress of her relationship with the man. Her family feels that maybe this is the time they should have been talking to her about, that maybe she simply didn’t want to see or talk to him anymore.

Some people will point to this as a case of a woman being too fragile to handle a difficult relationship. Or, as some social media users have suggested to me over the past few weeks, it is simply a case of women being unable to deal with their own emotional pain.

The truth is, this is not a story of a woman being too fragile or too helpless, it is a story of a woman having been raped repeatedly, and a woman struggling to manage her feelings and thoughts and to seek help for her sexual violence. I am not saying that there is a magical pill that can put a woman’s life back to normal, when she is already in crisis. But as I have been saying here many times in the past few weeks, this is a difficult case on many levels that the news is unwilling to deal with.

What should we call this story? A murder of women or a rape of an innocent man? This is all very difficult to deal with. I know, many
