You’ve got to be kidding me! It’s a really hard art to master.”

I look up from my computer screen, and the words hang on one line. When I take another shot, they appear all over my screen: “Kathy Griffin gets a break. I really didn’t see that coming, but it seems to be coming.”

This was one of the worst-kept secrets in the hockey world.

And now we know for sure.

And then there was the question: How did the Maple Leafs turn a $5.1 million contract into a $5 million signing bonus?

So how did their salary cap figure get so much higher when the player they were acquiring, Joffrey Lupul, made $6 million per season and was the top goaltender on the team?

So how did the Maple Leafs make up for the money they got from the Edmonton Oilers for Tyler Seguin, the $12.5 million they received for Tyler Bozak and $25.7 million they received for Sami Vatanen?

Simple. The Maple Leafs got that money.

And they didn’t even have to do that.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were only able to do that because the Oilers signed the same players that the Leafs are spending their money on at the expense of some young players, players who have no future.

The Oilers don’t like Tyler Seguin, the Leafs don’t like Zach Hyman, the
