What is Marcelled hair? – Fringe Flapper Dress
Marreed is an aromatic plant found in the tropics where it is eaten in salads, soups, savoury dishes and other recipes. A few hundred years ago, it was used as a medicinal plant. It makes a good addition to hot and savoury dishes, especially to help make them more appealing and less boring by adding a wonderful depth of flavour, aroma and colour to them. Marcelled hair is also an effective food coloring in recipes!
Ingredients for Marcelled hair:
1.5 – 2.0 tsp dried marc (red wine, brown wine, black wine, white wine) – not from grapes!
Mix this with enough liquid to make a thick paste. This thick paste has a slightly sticky consistency that gets spread on vegetables and spices and helps make the dish look rich and appealing. Marcelled hair can be made into various shapes. Some people make marcelled hair rolls for parties in a bag. The dried marc is then placed in a pan or cast iron pan. This thick paste is then used to make various varieties of dishes.
In the past, dried marc used to be used as a thickening agent in many recipes. It has been used in many soups, stews, stews with cream or in other vegetarian ways that include making marced hair paste. I usually add about a teaspoon of dried marc to my marcelled hair sauce every time I add some cream sauce to a stew. Marcelled hair can also be used for cooking in puddings, cakes, muffins, cookies and pastries. The dried marc is very easy to make. You can easily make this as part of the marcelled hair process and it will make an excellent addition to marced hair recipes. Even if you do not make this, it is really a great addition in marced hair recipes. Just sprinkle the marc and add some more liquid!
For many years, I made marced hair sauce in small batches by blending dried marc and a little bit of water, but eventually decided to purchase 2.0 – 2.5 lbs. of chopped dried marc from my local health food store. If you do not have enough marc, or you do not wish to grind it into a paste, you can store the marc in an airtight container or jar and use it in any marced hair recipe!
