“I have a lot of people teach me guitar. A lot. There’s not really one person I listen to for guitar. But I have a couple people who teach me, and so my learning progress has definitely been quicker than other people’s.”
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from growing up and playing all over the world?
“Probably making mistakes, because you can’t always make the same mistakes. Not everyone can try to change every day. And if I had ever thought about giving up, then I guess I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do that and to play as well as I could.”
Which song on your debut album is your favorite?
“There might be a lot of songs that I like but I might not even like 100% of it. There’s one song that I love so much that I love playing—there might be a lot of songs you can’t do, you’ll try once and it wouldn’t work. With this one, I had never played that much but it’s so unique and the melody, it’s not going to sound like anything else out there and it just hit me that day.”
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“It depends, honestly. If I think I’m too heavy-handed or too aggressive and I don’t give myself enough time to rest before going to sleep to get in and to calm.”
“This is what I wanted. I want to do anything and everything to be that person because I don’t know what else I can do besides that. I was always like, ‘I want to do just a little bit of everything because just a little bit, you see, all the stuff that you gotta go through, all that stuff, makes you grow and changes you.’
“I’ve always been like that and I really love it and I don’t want to leave that. If I’m going to live, I want to leave that behind. The thing that I loved about being that person was like if you were one with your friends or family or whatever it may be, you felt safe and you’d go out with them but if you weren’t, you still felt safe.
“I really like that type of feeling.”
