What is a fair price for guitar lessons? – How To Learn Guitar Fast Youtube Video

The average guitar lesson currently costs $1,900 or more. Are you getting the better deal? In this tutorial, I’d like to share my experience with the pricing of guitar lessons. My research leads me to the conclusion that the average cost to teach a guitar with my company is $1,800 – $1,950.

What does this mean?

Let’s say you sell your guitar and can earn about 10X your original purchase price. That’s a very good business practice. In this case, it would mean we have to sell our lessons at 6X the actual cost of instruction. That’s obviously very hard to do. But the reason is we are just as good at sales as we are at teaching.

Why is it hard to sell lessons?

I think a lot of this goes back to what’s called a “fee-for-service” model. This is where you provide a service to the customers for the cost of your service. That service is something like guitar tuning. And you charge the customer for tuning their guitar. Some people might charge for lessons. Others might charge for lessons based on the number of lessons offered.

To the untrained eye it might look like a fee-for-service model. But if you’re in charge of marketing and sales, then the company should earn a profit from providing your service. A fee-for-service model would also likely lead to bad or expensive customers or ineffective business practices.

Let’s assume I offer an instructor $25-$40 per lesson for guitar playing. How does that sound to you? What if you can teach a guitar with $1,000 of your own money? How would that sound to your customer if they can buy guitar lessons for less than $500 a month?

But how does it compare to what the average guitar lesson price is?

If we compare lesson pricing right now to the average cost of instruction, that’s obviously expensive. As it should be, since most guitar lessons require some sort of investment beyond the money that you spend on your guitar. But there is something else going on there as well. Our industry doesn’t pay enough to cover a full-time guitar instructor. So we need to raise our prices to cover the costs involved in training a student. In other words, our industry isn’t just charging too much money on too few students; we’re paying too much on too much students.
