Most people believe you need a professional guitar teacher to have any success with any instrument. How wrong they are! You will love being taught by someone who is an expert in their field – but that doesn’t mean you have to be a pro yourself! Many people will be perfectly happy playing guitar for some time with no formal training, then move into becoming a professional guitar teacher. I will say this, however, is not a recommended idea if you are starting out. Learning guitar is easy, but if you haven’t started yet, you’ll get lost in the noise and distractions of the internet, the noise of other guitar teachers or even in the noise of the guitar you are looking to play.

What is the biggest guitar bug in the world? If I was asked this question as a teenager, I would probably have said the biggest bug in my guitar playing was playing fast when I should not have done, or getting bored, and not thinking of new things to practice instead of getting more comfortable with the way I was playing. However, one of the biggest problems is also the biggest tool, so it’s hard to say!

You’ve played in punk rock bands such as Against Me!

Which are the best books for beginner guitarists? I feel like there are more, but these are definitely the ones I consider my favourites. The best beginners guitar books: A Beginner’s Guide to Guitar Theory, by Michael Rippon
