The first rap song that came in our ears was ‘F**kin’ Problems’, a song by the Harlem-based hip-hop group, Kool G Rap. It was the only rap album that made the cut. In that album, he raps about being an addict. He raps about feeling depressed, he raps about his mother dying, he raps about how the cops think he’s a drug dealer and what he was trying to escape by joining rap. He tells us that he got out when he was 14-years-old and that he was doing a few lines about being an addict before he was finished. I think that was the first time that you hear that a rapper says he’s addicted to a song. When you listen to the song now, it feels like he’s saying that he’s been there. That’s the first rap that you hear about being an alcoholic – he’s telling you his life was hard when he was 15, 16. Once you get that into your mind, you can begin to understand where he came from.

Where is it today?

It’s been around for over two decades and is still going on in rap. The music is very important to this generation, even if it comes off as a bit of a cliché. I don’t even think you can compare rap to country anymore because everything is so different but they do have one thing in common – the music.

Who’s the best rapper of all time?

I don’t know. I’m just saying that it really doesn’t matter because the best rapper isn’t the best rapper. It’s someone who has done something that nobody can touch or is going to be remembered. Michael Jackson is the best, though. I’m talking about that guy.

When did he start making music?

When he was 3 or 4. He got a record player and turned the speakers on at the back and began to play music. He went to school every day and never missed a day of school. The idea he gave me was that in order to go to the same school as him, you should learn how to play music. That’s how I met him, too. It was like a movie when we were kids, so I didn’t really have any friends at the time. I was never close to my peers and was always around people at home. I was in another city, though.

Who was your biggest influence growing up?

One thing that I would say
