The first rap song was by Big Pooh, then by a group called the Pooh Kings. I remember one of them was called “I Just Can’t Quit You” (from the film The Pooh Brothers). I listened to that and was in. I was like, “Let me go with that.”

Did you get into rapping on there?

I got a lot right out of it. People say that I was a very shy kid. But nobody could stop me.

What are you working on right now?

We’re working on a group called the Red Hot Hot Boys with my brother. It’s about my brother and I. It’s like I was born and raised in America and I’m going to make it there.

So you have two brothers?

Yeah, I have two kids too. I have a son named Z. He’s 2 1/2, he’s a half-Chinese, half-Irish guy. He’s a football player, and I played football. He went to Yale, I went to UCLA, and we went through university together and we worked together. He loves rap. He likes what’s popular and I like what’s popular. He’s a big fan of “Ether,” I like “Amerasian. It’s his favorite music. But we’ll do a collaborative record one day. He loves to talk about different things, so we’ll just go through topics we feel are popular and see what people say and try to come up with a way to do it.
