We’ll go ahead and assume you’re familiar with painting anything you can get, so let’s talk about applying paint.

When you’re finished with any painting process, you’ve got a little something to show for the effort. It’s only after you’ve been painting for a while how much you appreciate the tools that you have.

The most important thing in painting (as in most hobbies, particularly those you do outside of the kitchen) is that paint doesn’t stick to anything. It doesn’t clog your equipment – it doesn’t clog your paintbrush.

And there’s not a step in the process that isn’t safe. There are no shortcuts.

To apply paint, brush the surface lightly with water, then lightly paint whatever you’re painting. Leave the surface wet, but not wet. Any water that’s on the surface can evaporate over time and clog up your paintbrushes.

So as long as it is not on paint, water doesn’t matter (and don’t let your kids run around with buckets of water on their hands so you can paint with them).

Remember what you’ve learned about painting from earlier tutorials and how to use these important skills?

1) Paint what you’re painting on as lightly as you can while leaving the surface wet. Don’t use extra paint.

2) Use a paint brush, because it’s a machine, and it’s not made of metal.

3) Don’t get caught up in “how to get the paint to stick,” or “how to use chemicals and a paintbrush together,” don’t give away an essential part of the process by doing so.

4) If everything doesn’t work, it’s likely that it wasn’t the proper technique. There are a lot of things that can go wrong, and if you find that you can’t figure out how to paint, your technique or your tools just plain aren’t there.

Don’t let those things stop you from getting a good job! I guarantee that it doesn’t matter if you can paint one shade better than a competitor’s if you can’t get a good result. There’s no way to get perfect results no matter how much you paint.

Even if you’re just not able to paint well, your ability to get it right will still save you a ton of time, money, and frustration down the road.

So, as a painter I want the work to be great, as I
