The National Institutes of Health (NIH) points to two studies that were done in 2007 and 2010. It said in one study: “The National Academies of Sciences, the Engineering and Medicine committees in the National Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Medicine committee have jointly recommended that persons with type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, or both, or individuals with significant chronic disease and severe limitations in physical activity should consider weight management as part of effective prevention or treatment. This recommendation remains an important public health challenge.”
In the other study, the committee said: “Exercise can help patients with obesity and other metabolic conditions lose weight and improve health.” The study also mentioned that “most studies indicate that physical activity can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia and improve quality of life.”
